lack of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras across the city is hampering police investigations of criminal cases, but a request to install more cameras has been rejected, the police have said.
South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Mardiaz Kusin Dwihananto said the police faced difficulties in identifying suspects in crimes committed at places without the CCTV coverage, kompas.com reported on Monday.
Mardiaz said the National Police had asked the Jakarta administration to install more CCTV cameras on the streets across the city’s municipalities including in South Jakarta, but “[The city administration] officials said they’re prioritizing CCTV cameras procurement for other purposes.”
The CCTV cameras that have been installed were insufficient, Mardiaz added, as they are mostly located at major junctions. (vla)
