he odd-even traffic policy implemented at the Tangerang toll road has reduced traffic congestion on the road heading to Jakarta, an agency has claimed.
“We saw the number of vehicles decline 28 percent to 4,459, from 6,194 vehicles previously,” said Tangerang Transportation Agency head Saeful Rohman on Tuesday, as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
The policy’s trial run started at Tangerang 2 and Kunciran 2 tollgates toward Jakarta on Monday from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. in a bid to reduce traffic congestion.
Following the trial run, more vehicles were reported to depart earlier from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m., to 3,395 vehicles from only 3,121, to avoid the odd-even policy.
“Anyway, vehicles also change routes to Karawaci 2, Karawaci 4 and West Karang Tengah 2 tollgates from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Usually, only 7,695 vehicles [pass through those gates], but now it has increased 1.7 percent to 7,831 vehicles,” Saeful said.
The volume of traffic at the Jakarta-Tangerang toll road declined 31 percent to 3,054 vehicles per hour, from 4,448. Meanwhile, there were 719 Tangerang Transjabodetabek Premium bus passengers on Tuesday. (wnd)
