akarta Governor Anies Baswedan said on Saturday that he would revoke the citywide golf course tax discount, saying that such a provision is inappropriate for an expensive sport.

Anies said he would revise Jakarta Governor Decree No. 141/2014, which provides golf courses with a 50 percent discount on land and property taxes (PBB), arguing that the tax only benefited golf course owners.

“Imagine that PBB taxes for the most expensive sports are discounted. It’s all about where [the administration] stands,” he said on Saturday in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, as quoted by poskotanews.com.

Despite the tax provision, Anies said golf players in the city still paid a lot for the sport.

There are six golf courses in Jakarta; one is located in Pantai Indah Kapuk in North Jakarta; two in Halim Perdanakusumah, East Jakarta; one in Rawamangun, East Jakarta; one in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta; and one in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta.

Anies said that after the decree revision, golf course taxes would return to regular rates.

He said tax discounts should apply to educational and social welfare causes. (wit)
