he Jakarta Police announced on Tuesday that it would begin a trial of an expansion of the odd-even traffic policy in the city in July, just a few weeks before the Asian Games.
The odd-even traffic policy regulates that cars with a license plate ending in an odd number are only allowed to travel in certain zones on odd-numbered dates, while those with even plate numbers are only allowed to travel on even-numbered dates.
Currently, the traffic regulation is in effect on Jl. Sudirman-Jl. MH Thamrin during morning and afternoon rush hours
In the expansion, which will be implemented during the 2018 Asian Games from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2, the odd-even rule will be in effect every day on major roads across the city from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
“The measure is taken to ensure traffic runs smoothly during the event,” said Jakarta Police traffic directorate legal enforcement head Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto.

The expansion will affect Jl. S. Parman, Jl. Gatot Subroto, Jl. DI Pandjaitan, Jl. Ahmad Yani and Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan.
In South Jakarta, it will also be applied to the Pondok Indah Artery road, from the Kartini intersection to the Kebayoran Baru intersection. It will also affect Jl. HR Rasuna Said.
In Central Jakarta, the rule will affect Jl. Benyamin Sueb in Kemayoran.
The trial of the odd-even expansion is scheduled for the first two weeks of July. (wit)
