A mob destroyed a black Grand Livina car near the Transjakarta bus shelter in Mangga Besar, West Jakarta, on Thursday.

The car driver, identified as Franky and who was allegedly under the influence of drugs, was heading to Harmoni intersection, when he hit a motorcyclist at around 1 p.m., Tamansari Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ruly Indra said on Friday.

“Franky claimed that he was consuming crystal meth inside his car [when it was parked] at Lokasari,” Ruly said as quoted by kompas.com.

The 39-year-old driver sped up when other drivers asked him to stop. He later entered a Transjakarta bus lane, where Franky hit another motorcyclist and a road divider

The car finally stopped and a mob immediately attacked the car, while the police took Franky into custody.

The police are still investigating where Franky obtained the drugs. "We can’t say the source of the drugs because anyone can purchase them anywhere,” he said.

The front part of the car was damaged from hitting the road divider and being smashed by the mob. The two motorcyclists whom Franky hit were not injured.

The police found sleeping pills and zip lock plastic bags, which had been used to hold the crystal meth, as admitted by Franky, in his car.

The police are still hunting the perpetrators of the mob justice. “No matter what, we can’t permit [mob justice],” Ruly added. (stu)
