T

he Jakarta administration temporarily shut down Old City discotheque on Jl. Kali Besar Barat in Tambora, West Jakarta, on Monday, following the arrest of 52 people for allegedly using drugs on the premise.

Public Order Agency officers sealed the building and put up an announcement that the night club would be temporarily closed.

The agency’s operational head, Harry Apriyanto, said the night club had be closed since Sunday, after the Jakarta branch of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) raided the premise.

The establishment will be closed until the Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency finishes reviewing Jakarta BNN's report on the raid.

"If it is proven that drugs were distributed at the night club, we will permanently shut it down. We will first revoke its license and close the place," Harry said on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

In April, the city administration threatened to close the discotheque after the arrest of an alleged drug user who started a fight inside the club.

The discotheque management deplored the administration's plan at that time, saying the move would make 100 club employees jobless.

According to Gubernatorial Regulation No. 18/2018 on tourism business, the city administration may shut down entertainment venues that violate the law, such as through drug distribution, gambling, human trafficking and prostitution, based on field monitoring results, mass media and public reports.
