he number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia reached 1.03 million in July, a significant increase of 20.42 percent from the previous month, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) revealed on Thursday.
Compared to the same period last year, the number also increased by 17.68 percent, according to BPS distribution and service statistics deputy head Sasmito Hadi Wibowo.
"Most of the foreign tourist arrivals in July were Chinese citizens with 15.29 percent, followed by Australians [12.20 percent], Singaporeans [9.35 percent], Malaysians [8.98 percent] and Japanese [4.08 percent]," Sasmita said.

Increased foreign tourist arrivals in July occurred at almost all of the country’s main entrances, with the highest rise recorded at Sam Ratulangi Airport in North Sulawesi with 267.50 percent, followed by Sepinggan Airport in East Kalimantan (192.83 percent) and Adi Sucipto Airport in Yogyakarta (130.36 percent).
"While the lowest increase happened at Tanjung Balai Karimun Port in Riau Islands with 3.54 percent," Sasmito said.
In total, 6.32 million foreign tourists visited Indonesia between January and July, a 7.64 percent increase compared to 5.88 million in the same period last year. (kes)
