he urban setting of Jl. Sudirman and Jl. Thamrin will see new changes very soon, as Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama plans to adorn the area with new facilities and improved infrastructure.
To revitalize the area, the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle (Bundaran HI) in Central Jakarta will soon encircle a dancing water fountain, which will stand within view of a park that will be built on the grounds of the former British Embassy.
Aside from the beautification of the roundabout area, Ahok told kompas.com on Monday that the sidewalks of Jl. Sudirman and Jl. Thamrin would be widened by 9 to 10 meters.

"The work from the Monument National [Monas] to Bundaran HI is targeted for completion in early 2017. But the construction from there to Semanggi is currently on hold due to the MRT project. But we will finish the project from Semanggi to Senayan nevertheless," said Ahok.
After the sidewalks are widened, Ahok expects the added space to include small cafes, which would serve as hangout spots for Jakartans. “Such models will open up opportunities for young people to start businesses. Any available land should be put to good use," he added. (mra/kes)
