ith the success of the fourth Bali Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) 2017 that gathered hundreds of foreign sellers and buyers, the event is set to transform into an international travel fair in the future.

This year’s exhibition, which runs from June 7 to 11 at Nusa Dua Bali Convention Center, Bali, saw the participation of 230 buyers from 55 countries and 179 sellers from all over Indonesia.

“There was an additional seller from South Korea who participated in this year’s BBTF. We hope that next year [more] foreign sellers will take part so it will become an international travel fair. The target is to become the biggest travel fair in Asia,” said Tourism Ministry's deputy for overseas promotion, I Gde Pitana, at a welcoming dinner event on Thursday.

BBTF 2017 chief organizer I Ketut Ardana said the committee had rejected several platinum buyers due to a lack of effort in attracting foreign tourists to Indonesia.

“Buyers in the platinum category are tour operators that can attract around 10,000 foreign tourists to visit Indonesia every year,” explained I Ketut.

Up to 60 platinum buyers attended this year’s exhibition. Meanwhile, other tour operators that attracted fewer than 10,000 were listed in the gold category.

“BBTF 2017 is aiming for Rp 6.99 trillion [US$525.7 million] of business-to-business transaction,” I Ketut added. (kes)
