Up to 10,000 people flocked to the Garut Intan Carnival Parade held at Jl. Ahmad Yani in Garut, West Java, on Oct. 1.
The town first held the event back in 2015.
“The parade needs to have its own identity; since it’s being held in Garut that means the event needs to have attractions that showcase the culture of Garut,” said Tourism Ministry's head of cultural promotion, Wawan Gunawan.
The event featured an exhibition of naval weapons defense system (Alutsista) from Garut Military Command (Kodim) 0611.
It also hosted an exhibition of clothing made of waste materials that were later paraded by students and locals. In total, up to 164 people from 80 groups took part in the activity.
The event committee also held a bazaar throughout Jl. Ahmad Yani, which featured 20 booths of food and beverages, handicraft and fashion products from Garut, Tasikmalaya and Bandung. (kes)
