urakarta in Central Java is gearing up for the wedding of the year between President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo’s only daughter Kahiyang Ayu and her fiancée Bobby Affif Nasution.
Their wedding will be a two-day event that falls on Nov. 7 to 8.
“Up to 200 pedicabs for guests that will be stationed in Sumber Field and Banyuanyar Field have been plastered with Pesona Indonesia tourism brand,” said Tourism Minister Arief Yahya.
Moreover, these 200 assigned pedicab drivers will be wearing a batik uniform.
“This uniform is to identify the official pedicab drivers,” said Surakarta Mayor F.X. Hadi Rudyatmo.
Arief said the wedding is an exceptional cultural attraction that will catch the world’s attention.
“Up to 60 percent of foreign tourists come to Indonesia to experience the culture, Pak President Jokowi has become an endorser for Indonesian tourism,” he added.

The wedding will feature six traditional processions beginning with siraman (bathing) ceremony for both the bride and groom that will take place separately.
The bride’s procession will be held in the morning at the President’s house in Sumber, Banjasari district, while the groom’s procession will be at Alila Hotel.
At night, there will be midodareni (eve of the ceremony) event at the President’s house.
“These two events are part of Javanese ritual held before akad nikah [wedding vow] ceremony thus the procession falls one day before akad,” explained the event’s guide, Widarsih Suranto.
The akad nikah and ijab qabul (Islamic version of holy matrimony) processions will be held on the eighth of November at Graha Saba Buana Building, followed by panggih (a meeting between the bride and groom).
The groom and bride’s families are said to use horse-drawn carriage and gold-decorated chariot to travel to the wedding’s venue.
“Visitors should expect road closures; the reception itself is expected to welcome 8,000 guests,” Widarsih added. (kes)
