Global cruise operator Dream Cruises has opened a new route, selecting Surabaya as its main destination.

Genting Cruise Line marketing manager Hari Susanto said in an official press release on Sunday that “Malaysia and Thailand as destinations are decreasing in popularity among Asians. This is why we’re opening up new routes in Indonesia, specifically Surabaya and Bali.”

Tempo.co reported that Surabaya’s Tanjung Perak Port, located in waters 14 meters deep, was seen as an ideal port to handle the Genting Dream cruise liner, which is 150 thousand tonnes. The port is also equipped with a passenger terminal.

The cruise ship has 1,600 rooms that can hold 3,200 passengers. “In December 2017, there were 2,600 passengers from Indonesia, 600 of whom came from Surabaya.”

More than just a ship, Genting Dream is also a luxury resort that is specially designed for the Asian market. The ship's maiden voyage began in Singapore on Nov. 16, 2017.

Packages offered by the cruise range from a two-night weekend to five-night stays. Departing every Sunday from Singapore, the cruise ship sails to destinations in the Strait of Malacca and the Java Sea.

Onboard entertainment includes six water slides, a climbing wall, a 35-meter zip-line that sways above the open waters, mini golf and a glow-in-the-dark bowling alley. Indoor entertainment facilities include the Zodiac Theater, a 999-seat venue that hosts world-class performances, and Zouk nightclub, which hosts Zouk Out At Sea parties through Zouk Beach Club.
