Garuda Indonesia’s newly introduced eco basic subclass tickets will be made available starting in May. Ticket prices are reportedly 15 to 20 percent lower than economy class tickets.
Garuda Indonesia CEO Pahala Mansury told kompas.com on Monday, “Everyone can fly Garuda Indonesia as we introduce a new ticket class, which is priced under economy class, with several restrictions. The point is to invite those who have yet to fly Garuda Indonesia.”
Here are the things you need to know before flying on Garuda Indonesia's eco basic class:
According to Pahala, each Garuda Indonesia flight will be allocated 12 eco class seats.
ATR 72-600 and CRJ Bombardier routes available
Routes served by the ATR 72-600 and CRJ Bombardier planes offer eco basic tickets for passengers, among the 21 routes offering the subclass tickets.
Passengers with eco basic tickets are not allowed to pick their seats, as they will be pre-determined by Garuda Indonesia.
No extra baggage
Eco basic ticket holders will only get the standard 20-kilogram baggage allocation. Sporting goods are not included.
Use of overhead compartment prohibited
Passengers with eco basic tickets are only allowed to store one cabin luggage under their seat.
No Garuda Miles
Eco basic ticket holders are not eligible to claim Garuda Miles.
Several amenities are not allowed to be used
Premium check-in, priority boarding, fast track and lounge access are off limits for eco basic ticket holders even when they are already members of the Garuda Miles Platinum and SkyTeam Elite Plus.
No special meal
An eco basic ticket will not deprive passengers of food, however, special meals cannot be requested.
No babies allowed
Those who plan to travel with babies are not allowed to book eco basic tickets, as infants (zero to 23 months) are not allowed in the subclass.
No children discounts
The eco basic subclass tickets don’t offer a children’s discount. Those traveling with children must pay the regular fare.
