T Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has announced that sleeping cars will become available on June 11 to serve the imminent Idul Fitri holiday season.

“We will begin selling the tickets on June 10,” said PT KAI president director Totok Suryono in Jakarta on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.

The sleeping cars will be available on round-trip rail travel plying the Jakarta/Gambir-Surabaya/Pasar Turi and Gambir-Malang routes.

“Currently, we have four cars that can be coupled to existing trains such as the Gajayana (Malang) and the Argo Anggrek (Surabaya)," said Sunarjo, the administration and operations director of PT KA Pariwisata.

Three sleeping cars, each equipped with 54 reclining seats, will be available for travelers, while one car is reserved as backup. Tickets can be booked at offline counters as well as through the PT KAI website and mobile app.

“We are unable to announce the prices yet, as we are still awaiting confirmation from the central office. However, with the exclusive services we’re offering, the estimated price is around Rp 1 million [per passenger],” he said.

The sleeping cars rank above priority-class cars as the luxury train service currently available in the country.

Passengers that take a sleeping car will be able to recline their seats to a sleeping position, similar to an airplane’s first-class seats. The sleeping cars are also outfitted with other luxury facilities and amenities such as display monitors, a catering service and WI-FI. (wng)
