The Pesona Lombok Rally Wisata 2018 (Lombok Charm Tourism Rally) is to be held on Nov. 24 and 25.

The tourism sports event, initiated by the Indonesian Motorcycle Union (IMI) and the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) tourism agency, is open to automobile clubs, societies and enthusiasts.

M. Nurhaedin, head of the NTB chapter of IMI, said in a press conference on Thursday in Mataram that the rally is to start at the Montana Premier Senggigi Hotel in West Lombok. The route, divided into two stages, would take participants to a number of tourist destinations in Lombok.

The first day's stage consists of tourist spots in West and North Lombok. “Participants will pass through the locations affected by the Lombok earthquake in July and we also plan to give donations to the victims in the area,” said Nurhaedin.

On the second day, the rally will take participants to Mataram in West Lombok and Central Lombok.

Nurhaedin said that points are to be awarded in the rally based on time, speed and distance. Participants are coming from Jakarta, East Java, Yogyakarta, Bali, South and East Kalimantan and Papua, while NTB as host is to have 15 professional teams, along with 20 amateur teams from automobile clubs, societies and private institutions.

The 2018 Lombok Tourism Rally is the fourth since it was founded in 2015. Nurhaedin said that the competition is held to help accelerate the recovery of tourism after the earthquake, along with the Pesona Indonesia, Wonderful Indonesia and Pesona Lombok Sumbawa tourism programs.

Lalu Mohammad Faozal, the head of NTB’s tourism agency, said that the rally is considered highly strategic as a promotional tool for Lombok. “We hope the participants would enjoy the beauty of Lombok and take wonderful stories back to their home areas,” he said. (wng)
