Sustainable urban solutions and planning — the Nordic way

On April 21 to 26 the Nordic ambassadors from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden traveled across Java with the Nordic Roadshow — “The Nordic Way” — to share Nordic values and Nordic solutions for sustainable urban living.

n April 21 to 26 the Nordic ambassadors from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden traveled across Java with the Nordic Roadshow — “The Nordic Way” — to share Nordic values and Nordic solutions for sustainable urban living. 

Together with Nordic guest speakers and companies, they visited Surabaya in East Java, Yogyakarta, Bandung in West Java and Jakarta. The Nordic Roadshow engaged with local governments, businesses, universities and decision makers on four urban challenges: city planning, urban mobility, energy and environment, and opportunities and education.

Urbanization is one of the dominant global trends today. By 2050, 66 percent of the world’s population is expected to live in urban areas. Many Indonesian cities are experiencing the immense challenges that come with rapid urbanization. 

Housing, transport infrastructure, freshwater supply, waste management and energy are just some of the services that cities need to provide for their new inhabitants.
