Sinarmas World Academy student speaks on National Children’s Day Medal of glory: David Shane Goh, an eight-grader of the Sinarmas World Academy, shows off his gold medal, which he won at the 2019 National Science Olympiad.

O

n July 31, 13-year-old David Shane Goh from the Sinarmas World Academy in Tangerang went to a National Children's Day event held by the regional women's empowerment and child protection agency, DPMP3AKB, in South Tangerang, Banten.

David received the invitation, not because he's still a child, but because he was asked to share his inspiring story of winning a gold medal at the National Science Olympiad (OSN).

This year's National Children's Day explored the theme "The Role of Families in the Protection of Indonesian Children". David and two other OSN winners shared their experience at the competition to encourage young children to seek and develop their potential in life, inspiring the children to achieve what they aspire to be.

The stories from the young speakers aimed to positively impact the other participants, specifically the children in Tangerang, and to encourage them not to give up on their dreams.

David talked about his reflections and experiences that nurtured his passion in science, technology, engineering and mathematics at the Sinarmas World Academy. He has always loved mathematics, which has been a central part of his life since kindergarten.

His enthusiasm has constantly pushed him to learn and study in pursuit of his dream of becoming a champion. His role models, David added, were his parents, teachers and coaches who had made a huge impact on his life.

Without their mentorship, he said, he could not have achieved the success he did. The complete support of his family and school has encouraged David to demonstrate exceptional motivation and deliver dazzling performances in numerous national and international competitions.

Although he had some unsuccessful moments, said David in his speech, he learned to get past them and sought to be the best in the next competition.
