oordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan has said Qatar is interested in making an investment in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) project, adding to the list of potential countries that the government has approached to reel in funds needed to develop the project.
Jakarta will immediately establish a government-to-government and strategic partner task force to accommodate those interests, Luhut said, adding that they would be tasked with identifying problems and elaborating on potential investments in the project.
“They said, ‘I want to invest here, here and there,’ I said: ‘calm down, we’ll arrange it, we’ll form a task force’,” Luhut said, as he recalled his recent conversion with Qatari delegates.
However, he did not specify which sector or parts of the project Qatar is looking to get involved in.
Before Qatar, the government had made moves to attract Gulf States to invest in the new capital city, namely Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Luhut previously said the UAE might commit around US$20 billion for the new capital city. President of the UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been involved in the steering committee of the new capital project.
