very national identity card (KTP) holder is now eligible to purchase one electric two-wheeler at a government-subsidized price, part of an effort to increase the country’s uptake of electric vehicles (EVs).
Under the previous regulation, only low-income Indonesians were eligible for the subsidy.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said on Tuesday that only Indonesian citizens were eligible for the subsidy and that they could purchase one subsidized motorbike per person, as determined by a unique KTP number.
The subsidy remains Rp 7 million (about US$457) for each purchaser, roughly the same price as an EV battery.
“We want to expedite the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia,” Agus said in a statement on Tuesday.
