he year 2045 will present a valuable moment for Indonesia, as the country will obtain a window of opportunity through a demographic bonus, something that only occurs once in a nation's lifetime. Success in utilizing this momentum will also support Indonesia’s escape from the middle-income trap in its race to become a high-income country.
Through the implementation of the Ekon Goes to Campus activity, the Office of the Coordinating Economic Minister has made consistent efforts to disseminate various government policies aiming to increase public understanding regarding the use of the demographic bonus.
The activity, aimed at students and the younger generation, was held in Bandar Lampung, Lampung on Dec. 11 and was attended by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, who also delivered a keynote speech.
Also present at the event were the governor of Lampung province, the mayor of Bandar Lampung, the spokesperson for the Office of the Coordinating Economic Minister, the head of the politics sub-directorate of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security at the Lampung Regional Police, the dead of intelligence at the Bandar Lampung District Prosecutor's Office, provincial and city chairs of the National Indonesian Youth Committee (KNPI), officials from the Lampung provincial government and academic community members.
“I am happy to be among around 400 political science students, registered from 28 universities across Indonesia. It is important for you to know that we are facing the future, namely the next stage of Indonesia's development," said Airlangga.
In his speech, he explained that Indonesia possesses a large capital to achieve the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision with strong economic resilience amid an uncertain global situation. Indonesia's economic growth has returned to pre-COVID levels of around 5 percent for eight consecutive quarters, and is considered one of the highest in the world.
The government is also encouraging downstream optimization supported by Indonesia's abundant natural resource potential in agriculture and minerals. Apart from that, the Government has issued Government Regulation No. 36/2023 concerning Foreign Exchange from Export Proceeds to carry out the mandate of the 1945 Constitution article 33 paragraph (3), which states that the country’s earth, water and natural resources are controlled by the state and used for the prosperity of the people.
"Natural wealth is not just [measured in] kilograms of goods, but in how much they are worth in rupiah. That must be fully utilized for the interests of the country."
On this occasion, Airlangga also outlined several of the government's achievements in facing conditions of global uncertainty, such as success in handling COVID-19 and the country’s success during its G20 presidency and as the 2023 ASEAN chairman.
“Leadership in ASEAN, G20 and APEC must be continued. This is related to social politics and international relations. Foreign policy is now economic politics. Our emphasis is on the economy," coordinating minister Airlangga said.
The Ekon Goes to Campus activity, which reached hundreds of political science students, received an enthusiastic welcome from the attendees, including during the question-and-answer discussion session which discussed the role of students in supporting the realization of a Golden Indonesia 2045, Indonesia's active role on the global stage to fight for its national interests and future opportunities for political science majors.
"Of course we encourage everything that supports Indonesia's progress and prosperity. And this is an opportunity for the current young generation to lead Indonesia for the next 20 years," Airlangga concluded.
