Bulog ensured that the government rice reserves are sufficient for Ramadan and Idul Fitri, and the government is intervening in the market to stabilize rice prices.
tate food public company Perum Bulog ensured on Monday that government rice reserves (CBP) were sufficient for the Ramadan fasting month until the Idul Fitri festivities.
"The current government rice reserves controlled by Bulog stand at 1.4 million tonnes, and there is still an unused assigned import quota of 1.5 million tonnes for this year,” Perum Bulog supply chain and public services director Mokhamad Suyamto said on Monday, as quoted by the Antara news agency.
“So, the total is more than sufficient to meet distribution needs during the fasting [month] and Idul Fitri.”
Suyamto said that Bulog’s current reserves could still help stabilize rice supply and market prices.
He also revealed that Bulog was distributing 10 kilograms of food aid per family to 22 million beneficiaries until June.
Regarding the high, unstable rice prices, Suyamto emphasized that Bulog would keep responding as directed by the government.
He said that Bulog would sell rice in residential areas below Rp 54,000 (US$3.45) for 5 kg, the highest retail price, through the Cheap Food Movement (GPM).
