China's Virtue DX begins operating $10m local medical equipment factory
Chinese investment in Indonesia's medical device and supplies sector has led to at least two local developments: a Virtue DX manufacturing facility in West Java and a newly inked joint venture with local medical supplier ESA Group.

irtue Diagnostics Indonesia, a subsidiary of China-based Virtue Diagnostics (Virtue DX), has opened a local production facility with an investment value of US$10 million.
Occupying a 12,200 square-meter site in Cikarang, West Java, Indonesia is the first country in the region to host a Virtue DX manufacturing facility as part of the company’s planned expansion into emerging markets in Southeast Asia.
According to the Health Ministry, it has a production capacity of 1,000 units of medical instruments a year and 6,000 liters of reagent a day.
“We have poured around $10 million in investments just for the factory. But this is still dynamic. We are committed to expanding [capacity] according to future demand,” Virtue Diagnostics Indonesia country manager Martin Marpaung said on Tuesday, as quoted by Kontan.
Virtue DX works in the field of in vitro diagnostics (IVD), or tests that can “detect disease, [health] conditions and infections”, as defined by the World Health Organization.
The company established its first physical presence in Southeast Asia with a research and development center in Singapore that focuses on mass spectrometry, immunoassay and molecular diagnostics. It also operates a South America manufacturing site in Brazil.
In China, Virtue DX’s Suzhou headquarters comprises a manufacturing and research and development facility. It also has a commercial office in Shanghai and a laboratory in Beijing.
