ith the rapid advances in technology, Indonesians have integrated tech into most aspects of their daily lives and are committed to using services provided on their phones. The country has, in parallel, facilitated the innovation with the offer to file taxes online and to pay bills using the different features on mobile banking applications.
Aside from that, paying for zakat, infaq, and sodaqoh can also now be done seamlessly through e-wallet or mobile banking apps.
This year, the National Zakat Amil Agency (BAZNAS) has bestowed GoPay with its annual prestigious BAZNAS Award as the best financial technology company that has played a significant role in distributing zakat, infaq and shodaqoh to the community online.
The awards were designed to be given to zakat management organizations and stakeholders that have helped encourage the revival of zakat in Indonesia. Zakat is a form of almsgiving, often collected by the Muslim community. The definition is also synonymous with infaq and shodaqoh.
"This year is the fifth year we have awarded GoPay as the best zakat provider in the fintech category. GoPay was chosen because it has consistently helped us make it easier for the Indonesian people to distribute zakat, infaq and shodaqoh online and advance Indonesia's digital donation ecosystem," said Prof. Dr. KH. Noor Achmad, MA, chairman of BAZNAS RI.
He revealed that BAZNAS Pusat had set a target of Rp 1.02 trillion for the three in 2024, with a target of 23 percent to come from digital transactions. As GoPay has been instrumental in reaching the digital target, Noor added that the agency hoped to announce further collaborations in the near future.
According to GoPay's statement, throughout 2023, the total zakat and donations made by GoPay users was than Rp 126 billion.
Making such contributions on the GoPay application is very easy. Users who would like to give zakat simply open the “Zakat and Donations” feature, select the zakat menu and the destination institution and then enter the amount they want to pay.
