Starlink to begin network trials in Nusantara in May
Satellite internet provider Starlink is set to run network operations in Indonesia in May with Nusantara as its test run site due to the network’s perceived reliability in remote regions.

atellite internet constellation operator Starlink is cleared to start operating in Indonesia in May, with the new capital of Nusantara being selected as the site for the network's initial test runs.
"We are expecting trials using one ground segment by using their services," Communications and Information Ministry postal and informatics service director Wayan Toni Supriyanto said on Wednesday, as quoted by katadata.co.id business news portal.
After securing permission for network operations in Indonesia, Starlink was in the process of applying for licenses as a very small aperture terminal (VSAT) and internet service provider (ISP), he added.
Starlink, a wholly owned subsidiary of aerospace firm SpaceX, has developed hub and fulfilled device standardization from the ministry’s Postal and Informatics Equipment Directorate General.
“There is a possibility that the company has complied with the VSAT. But for the internet, it has to cooperate with network access protection,” Wayan said.
“Perhaps the cooperation agreement has not been completed yet.”
Wayan said that Starlink would target users directly, or business-to-consumer (B2C) in its operations in Indonesia, but it was still working to get the permits.
