T

he Trade Ministry and the Industry Ministry are once again pointing fingers at each other over the import policy that has led local companies to suffer shipment delays caused by bureaucratic hurdles set by the two ministries.

This time it was state-owned weapons manufacturer PT Pindad that has procured explosives from overseas, but the shipments were held up in the port for weeks.

Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan told reporters on Friday that he claimed to have met with Pindad leadership, pointing to the Industry Ministry’s technical permit (pertek) as the reason the shipments were held up by port authorities.

“They said the goods arrived in March, but the permits were ready only in April. Why did the goods arrive before the permits? Because the technical permits took a long time,” Zulkifli said.

Industry Ministry spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arif refutes Zulkifli pointed out that it was the Trade Ministry that led the authorities to put the shipments under detention.

“The detentions of Pindad’s explosive were caused by the delayed issuance of the import permits (PI) from the Trade Ministry,” Febri said in a statement on Saturday.
