fter the 2024 IPEF Ministerial Meeting and IPEF Clean Economy Investor Forum concluded on Thursday, Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto swiftly utilized the momentum to conduct a series of meetings to promote economic cooperation.
Starting his agenda on Friday, he began with a breakfast meeting with Singapore Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Gan Kim Yong before the two cochaired the 6th Bilateral Working Group Indonesia-Singapore meeting.
At the bilateral meeting, the two leaders discussed agreements on technical discussions between the two countries within six working groups: Special Economic Zones, Investment, Manpower, Transportation, Agribusiness and Tourism. Coordinating Minister Airlangga and DPM Gan directly led the discussions, yielding concrete results in all six areas.
During the lunch session after the Bilateral Working Group event, Coordinating Minister Airlangga continued discussions with DPM Gan on various other strategic issues, particularly regarding the continuity of various economic cooperation programs agreed upon in various bilateral, regional and multilateral forums.
Following the meeting with DPM Gan, coordinating minister Airlangga headed to The Istana, the official residence and office of the president of Singapore, to meet with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and later with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
The four-eye meeting between coordinating minister Airlangga and president Tharman took place warmly in the President's office at The Istana, lasting about 45 minutes, exceeding the scheduled time. They discussed issues related to the green and food revolution from agriculture, supported by Temasek to build a modern food system, and other geo-economic issues.
After the meeting with president Tharman, in a separate area of The Istana, coordinating minister Airlangga met with prime minister Lawrence Wong, accompanied by several officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI). In addition to presenting the results of the Bilateral Working Group discussions, they discussed various economic cooperation issues, including Singapore's support for Indonesia's OECD accession and Indonesia joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The meeting with PM Wong lasted almost an hour, was highly productive and successfully discussed many future bilateral cooperation issues.
It was an extraordinary moment. In one day, coordinating minister Airlangga completed the annual Bilateral Working Group meeting and had the opportunity to meet with three of Singapore's top leaders.
Accompanying Coordinating Minister Airlangga in these important meetings were Deputy Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso, Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Suryopratomo and an expert team from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.
