P

ublic Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has proposed a budget allocation of Rp 26 trillion (US$1.68 billion) for buildings and infrastructure maintenance in the future capital city of Nusantara starting next year.

Basuki, who is also the interim Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority head, said all the infrastructure in the future capital city would be handed over to the IKN Authority. Thus, budgets related to maintenance would be part of the agency’s annual allowance.

“We will hand them over to [the IKN Authority]…[Undertaking these tasks] requires a budget. […] We proposed [a budget of] Rp 26 trillion,” Basuki said as quoted by Detik.com on Tuesday.

The government has allocated Rp 72.5 trillion for the construction of the planned capital city project for the three years until 2024 with around Rp 40 trillion allocated just for this year.

However, no funds have been earmarked for building and infrastructure maintenance in the project thus far.

Next year, the government is set to allocate at least another Rp 4 trillion in the proposed 2025 state budget to continue construction of the project, according to public works ministry official on Friday.
