The deputy finance minister has revealed that the 2025 state budget plan has adequate fiscal space for the agenda of Prabowo's incoming government, including the creation of any new ministries under a law revision that eliminates the cap of 34, which is expected to be passed before the end of this month.
ext year’s budget plan has been laid out to fully accommodate president-elect Prabowo Subianto’s agenda, including cabinet expansion, according to Deputy Finance Minister Thomas “Tommy” Djiwandono.
Tommy said on Wednesday that the Finance Ministry was coordinating with the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry to harmonize policies for the creation of additional ministries under the incoming government.
“So, whatever is decided by the president-elect can be executed from the budget side,” said Tommy, who is Prabowo’s nephew and part of the president-elect’s inner circle.
He was appointed in July as deputy finance minister by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in a move that was seen to facilitate the transition of power in October.
At a budget meeting on Tuesday, the Finance Ministry unveiled a plan to set aside Rp 491.22 trillion (US$31.87 billion) in a discretionary fund for the 2025 state budget.
The government and the House of Representatives agreed this week to jettison a provision in the 2008 Ministry Law that limits the number of ministries to 34.
