T

he release of Apple’s latest iPhone in Indonesia remains uncertain amid reservations from the Industry Ministry, even as the product is sold in dozens of countries around the world.

“The iPhone 16 was supposed to be released on Oct. 15, but now it’s been delayed. It’s probably going to be [released] early next month,” Lia, an employee at an authorized Apple reseller, told The Jakarta Post on Thursday, requesting that the reseller not be named.

While Apple launched the new produce in September in more than 20 countries, customers in Indonesia are still waiting.

The reseller had compiled the contact information of hundreds of potential 16 buyers over the past month, said Imelia, another employee.

“Every staffer compiles around 20 contacts every day from customers that are waiting for the iPhone 16. Once the product is released, we will notify them immediately,” she added.

Resellers have no real answer for customers, as they have yet to receive any update from Apple regarding the Indonesia release date for iPhone 16.

The reseller’s employees also told the Post that most of its customers preferred to wait for the iPhone 16’s official release instead of picking up the device abroad, considering the import duties they would need to pay atop the fee for registering the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) of the handset with local authorities.
