aiwan-based textile manufacturers are interested in establishing factories in Indonesia and in moving facilities from China and Vietnam into the country, the government has said.

Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto told reporters at his office on Friday that he had had a meeting with the Indonesian Textile Association (API) and the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF) involving 15 representatives of Taiwanese manufacturers.

“[The Taiwanese businesses] came over and expressed interest in investing in Indonesia,” Airlangga said. He declined to disclose the potential investment value, noting that the talks were still in an early stage.

The Taiwanese enterprises reportedly asked the Indonesian government to meet four conditions, the first of which was to ensure easy land acquisition.

Airlangga recommended that the firms establish their facilities within industrial estates. Indonesia has several such areas designated for manufacturers, which come with legal and financial facilities.

The TTF also asked about the availability of clean energy sources to run their factories, “since high-end textile industries nowadays are ESG-compliant”, Airlangga revealed, referencing environmental, social and governance standards.
