P

resident Prabowo Subianto is expected to proceed with his plan to establish the country’s state revenue agency, despite having opted to keep the Finance Ministry intact on the day he announced his cabinet.

Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Prabowo’s top adviser and biological brother, said on Sunday that the Third Deputy Finance Minister Anggito Abimanyu is set to take the helm of the planned body once it is established.

“I think [Anggito’s appointment] as the deputy minister is only temporary. He would later be promoted as the State Revenue Minister,” Hashim told the audience at the national leadership meeting of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

It remains unclear whether the new institution would materialize as a ministry or government agency, which Hashim did not detail further, including when it would be established.

If materialized, the body would take care of tax and excise, meaning this would no longer be part of the Finance Ministry’s functions.

The body would also be responsible for mining royalties collection alongside other sources of revenue, said the adviser.
