Gojek’s new holiday campaign: Embracing technology for a stress free season

A

s the year draws to a close, PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk’s (GoTo) on-demand service platform Gojek has launched the Yuk Libur campaign.

Running from Dec. 1 to Jan. 5 2025 across all cities in Indonesia, this program aims to promote affordable and convenient holidays while supporting domestic tourism .

Through the Yuk Libur campaign, travelers can enjoy discounts up to Rp300,000 in Gojek services, including transportation, food delivery, package shipping and grocery shopping.  For an even more delightful holiday experience, customers can also find curated juara lokal (local champion) culinary merchant recommendations in Indonesia’s top tourist destinations.

Gojek head of region user growth Erika Agustine highlighted the importance of year-end holidays as a peak travel period.

“Year-end holidays are one of the most anticipated moments for the public. This is evident from the trends we see in the Gojek app, where transportation services to airports, train stations and bus terminals increase significantly during the holiday season,” she explained.

Erika shared two distinct customer characteristics during the holidays, which can be broadly divided into the “explorers” and the “relaxers”. The former enjoys visiting tourist landmarks and culinary spots, while the latter prefers spending time at home or hotels.

“The Yuk Libur program is designed to accommodate both types by offering a variety of tailored options. We believe this initiative allows customers to explore and enjoy their destinations affordably and comfortably while also contributing to local economies through shopping and dining.”

Data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) revealed a 12.37 percent increase in domestic trips in 2023, reaching 825.8 million journeys. This is aligned with findings from Jakpat research on Millennials and Gen Z’s domestic travel preferences with activities like healing trips, culinary tours or going into adventures with friends. Interestingly, budget factor remains a top priority for both age groups.

“From exploring cities without having to bring personal vehicles to discovering culinary gems, sending gifts and meeting shopping needs,  Gojek offers solutions to make your holiday experience more delightful,” said Erika. She also stressed how convenience is an element that Gojek puts in front. “Safety features such as face verification, number masking, trip sharing and an emergency button are among those initiatives aimed to enhance the travel experience before, during and after the trips.”

The Tourism Ministry has expressed its appreciation for Gojek’s Yuk Libur program, recognizing its role in boosting local economies and increasing domestic tourist visits.

“ We hope this program will enhance the holiday experience. We are also grateful for this program as it could help to promote and support the number of travellers in local tourist destinations, which leads to local economic development and new job opportunities,” said Danesta Febrianto Nugroho, Team Leader for Tourism Destination Crisis Management of the Ministry of Tourism.

Danesta acknowledge how Gojek’s Yuk Libur campaign is aligned with the government’s “Proud to Travel in Indonesia” movement and the #DiIndonesiaAja campaign, which aims to encourage domestic tourism, preserve the beauty and cultural heritage of Indonesia and foster responsible travel practices.

“This campaign comes at an opportune moment ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays. Additionally, the ministry is currently promoting the “Clean Tourism Movement” to raise awareness among tourism operators, travelers and stakeholders about maintaining cleanliness and managing waste generated from tourism activities. We are delighted that GoTo is among our committed partners in this initiative,” he added.

“We at Gojek hope this program enables local travelers to explore the beauty of Indonesia while savoring local culinary delights, affordably and without hassle,” Erika concluded.
