No halt to ongoing toll road projects, Public Works Ministry vows

he Public Works Ministry insists on continuing work on existing toll road projects, despite President Prabowo Subianto’s instruction to temporarily halt future plans for major infrastructure, including new toll roads.

Rachman Arief Dienaputra, the ministry’s highway director general, said work would continue on all toll road projects in the pipeline, including those under construction as well as those in the initial stages of preparation, feasibility studies or auctions.

“There are no toll road [projects] that have been stopped. Yesterday, I told my [colleagues] we will continue [working on] toll roads that have been contracted and [those] that are currently being auctioned,” Rachman told a press briefing in Jakarta on Thursday, as quoted by DetikFinance.

He stressed that no existing toll road projects would be put on hold, and that privately funded projects would go on nonetheless.

“The deputy minister said that if we halted [the projects], we would be sued,” Rachman added, jokingly.
