he government has saved Rp 3.6 trillion (US$222.73 million) by cutting down official business travels and meetings in the last two months of 2024, according to the Finance Ministry.

The news was brought up by the ministry’s budget director general Isa Rachmatarwata during a Monday press conference on the state budget.

“[The savings] covered everything, not just business travels but also meeting packages and so on,” said Isa.

The belt-tightening scheme came following President Prabowo Subianto’s instruction during the first plenary cabinet meeting on Oct. 23 and has since been reiterated on multiple occasions.

In his speech, Prabowo instructed his freshly inducted ministers to study the budget allocation in detail and specifically asked for spending efficiency by avoiding unnecessary trips abroad.
