T LG Electronics Indonesia (LG) is conducting a one-month long environmental drive, “Better Life When We Recycle” aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of coping with the fabric waste issue.
Under the campaign, which officially kicked off on Feb. 27, the public are invited to collect and submit unworn clothes for recycling.
Explaining the reasons behind the ongoing campaign, LG Electronics Indonesia president Ha Sang-chul stated, “We are now embracing a modern lifestyle, but we are frequently unaware that fabric waste that cannot be decomposed may pose a challenge for our environment.”
The campaign is expected to serve as a trigger for further efforts at raising public awareness about the importance of handling the existing fabric wate in Indonesia.
For LG, the environmental awareness campaign is not the first time. The ongoing “Better Life When We Recycle” campaign is the continuation of the “Better life for all”, a big campaign focused on food waste, which LG conducted previously.
The “Better Life When We Recycle” campaign is being carried out to align with its pillar LG Loves Green, under the umbrella of corporate social initiative, LG Loves Indonesia.
Apart from environmental issues, LG also conducts its activities based on its social pillar, LG Loves and Cares focused on social activities and mitigating natural disasters, LG Loves School for education and LG Loves Children focused on children prosperity.
Ha said that every pillar has been designed to support each other, making it a sustainable program.
According to Ha, LG’s step to continue its campaign about environmental protection and modern lifestyle issues is aligned with the company’s spirit of creating a better life, a reflection of its tagline, Life’s Good. “We believe that life is good. And yet to enjoy it, we need to maintain it. Through the sustainable environmental campaign, we strive to ask as many people as possible to collectively create a better life for all,” said Ha.
Regarding the “Better Life When We Recycle” campaign, LG provides four drop boxes for collection purposes in different locations. These are the LG Product Service Center in Surabaya, located at Jl. Kalianyar No. 42 Kapasari Genteng, Surabaya; LG Service Center – Semarang at Jl. Majapahit No. 297, Gemah Pedurungan, Semarang; LG Service Center – Jakarta at RS Fatmawati No. 1A, Pondok Labu, South Jakarta; and Marketing Central Office of LG Electronics Indonesia at Gandaria 8 Office, Lantai 23, Jl. Sultan Iskandar Muda, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta.
In regard to acceptable unused clothes in terms of fabric material, LG has decided to accept only clothes made of cotton, not polyester.
LG has also provided a guideline about the types of cloth materials worthy of taking part in the initiative. They include shirts, trousers, uniforms, dresses, T-shirts, bedcovers, jeans and other pieces of cloth.
To attract more people to partake in the campaign, LG will give an appreciation to every participant without taking into account the amount of clothes they contribute. The appreciation is given in the form of a Ha Sang-chul discount for every purchase of LG products through lg.com/id.
Ha explained further that LG had teamed up with EcoTouch to conduct the recycling process of the collected clothes throughout the campaign period.
Under the collaboration scheme with the leading recycle company in Indonesia, the collected clothes will be converted into other useful materials for environmentally friendly insulation and pencil cases.
The “Better Life When We Recycle” campaign does more than just enable participants to be aware of the fabric waste recycling process. LG will take advantage of the environmentally friendly insulation material resulting from the recycling activity for building a child-friendly library in an area where children have low literacy levels.
As part of the “Better Life When We Recycle” campaign series, the planned renovation of the child-friendly library will be conducted by LG in collaboration with Yayasan Literasi Anak Indonesia (YLAI). Apart from renovating library spaces, the collaboration also covers increasing book availability and child school supplies.
“In line with the expected growing public awareness about environmental challenges related to fabric waste, we strive to provide an example of better opportunity management, which will have a positive impact on the advancement of Indonesia’s child literacy,” said Jay Jang, marketing and relations director of LG Electronics Indonesia.
