ast Java provincial government said it would soon launch a feasibility study to develop the Greater Surabaya Light Rail Transit (LRT) system, which it has been working with the United Kingdom since last year.
Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa met last week with Dominic Jermey, the British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, to discuss the study, which is being conducted by PwC and Mott MacDonald in 2024-2025.
“God willing, the results of the feasibility study from the UK side will be available next month,” the governor said on Monday, as reported by Kompas.com, citing she has shown preference to favor LRT projects.

The pre-feasibility study explores public transportation options in the Surabaya metropolitan area across three major corridors, ranging from Rp 8.1 trillion (US$497.7 million) to Rp 20.96 trillion with the most expensive belongs to mass rapid transit (MRT) option.
Surabaya’s efforts to develop a rail-based mass transit system have faced years of delays due to funding constraints, unclear planning and overlapping transport jurisdictions.
