T

he government plans to raise the ceiling for its microcredit program (KUR) to Rp 430 trillion (US$26.4 billion) next year, of which Rp 130 trillion is slated to be earmarked for the housing sector, according to Maman Abdurrahman, the minister of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

“Regarding the policy on allocating KUR funds for housing, it does not reduce the Rp 300 trillion ceiling already allocated for MSMEs outside the housing sector,” Maman emphasized on Friday while speaking to reporters in Jakarta, as quoted by Kumparan.

“We are increasing the overall KUR allocation to include a dedicated portion for housing,” he said.

The new policy, which aligns with the government’s broader housing agenda to build 3 million new homes per year, is to be implemented in coordination with the Public Housing and Settlements Ministry under regulations expected to be finalized later this month.

On July 10, a day before Maman’s announcement, housing minister Maruarar Sirait confirmed that his ministry was expediting preparations to issue regulations for the scheme.

“The regulation for the housing KUR is currently under review and will be completed this month,” he said Thursday in Jakarta, as quoted by CNBC Indonesia.
