National oil lifting tops budget target at 619,000 bpd

Oil lifting has surpassed the target started in the state budget for the first time since 2008, Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia announced, citing rising production and new measures to legalize tens of thousands of community-run oil wells.

N

ational oil lifting has reached its highest level in more than a decade, exceeding the target stated in this year’s state budget.

Speaking at the HIPMI–Danantara Business Forum in Jakarta, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said on Monday that the country’s oil output had reached 619,000 barrels per day (bpd) in September and October.

“From January through October, the average reached between 605,000 and 617,000 barrels per day. So, it has exceeded the target. This is the first time since 2008 that the budget target has been met,” he said.

When he took office, Bahlil recalled, Indonesia’s oil lifting was only around 580,000 bpd, far below the domestic demand of 1.5 million to 1.6 million bpd.

Beyond oil, Bahlil highlighted the performance of the oil and gas sector during President Prabowo Subianto’s first year in office, noting that domestic gas output remained solid, with 70 percent consumed in the country and 30 percent exported.

At the same time, however, Indonesia still depends heavily on imports of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

“Our LPG consumption is around 8 million to 9 million tonnes per year, while our production capacity is only 1.3 million tonnes. The remaining 6 to 7 million tonnes are imported,” the minister explained.
