P

resident Prabowo Subianto touted Indonesia as a land of stability and opportunity to lure global investors while also stressing the need for greater scrutiny over “rapacious” businesses, as he delivered his keynote speech on Jan. 22 during the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, Switzerland.

“Indonesia is now not only a land of peace and stability [but also] the land of opportunity,” Prabowo told the forum on Thursday. “I am convinced that our growth […] will be significantly surprising to many in the world,” he said.

The President also pointed out that the International Monetary Fund had described Indonesia as “a global bright spot” despite challenging global conditions, noting that its economy continued to grow amid tightening fiscal conditions, trade tensions and political uncertainty.

He expressed confidence that the country would reach higher growth this year after averaging over 5 percent in annual economic growth for the past decade.

Indonesia’s peace and stability were not due to luck, Prabowo emphasized, but rather was the result of years of hard work and consistently choosing “unity over fragmentation”. This decision underpinned the country’s economic credibility, which he said had never defaulted on debt regardless of changes in its presidency.

Maintaining peace and stability also required "statecraft and capital", Prabowo said in introducing state asset fund Danantara, which would “coinvest and grow” with partners.
