Residents purchase Minyakita cooking oil during a low-cost food program in Cisalak, Depok, West Java, Indonesia, Tuesday, April 7, 2026. The Depok city government, in cooperation with Bulog, organized the event, offering various staple foods below market prices to help stabilize supply and prices and ease the burden on residents. he State Logistics Agency (Bulog) has requested a larger share of the distribution of the government-controlled cooking oil brand Minyakita, saying it is needed to prevent further scarcity, which is currently occurring.
Bulog president director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani unveiled the proposal on Tuesday, which he said was to meet increasing needs, particularly on account of the government’s decision to increase beneficiaries of the food assistance program.
“We proposed to increase [the portion] because we were assigned to not just supply to the market but also to supply food assistance [program],” Rizal said, as quoted by Kontan.
Minyakita is the sole cooking oil brand that comes from the domestic market obligation (DMO) stock, which is a requirement under a regulation that mandated crude palm oil (CPO) exporters to supply a certain amount to the domestic market before they are allowed to export.
The brand is sold at a fixed price and was introduced in 2022 to stabilize the market, at a time in which cooking oil price was highly volatile due to distribution troubles.
At least 35 percent of the entire DMO, or Minyakita, has to be distributed by food state-owned enterprises (SOEs) namely Bulog, ID Food and Agrinas Palma, while the rest is distributed by non-SOEs entities. Bulog is proposing to flip the proportion to 65 percent for SOEs while the private sector takes the smaller share.
Throughout March, the SOEs have distributed just shy of 50 percent of the entire Minyakita supply, most of which was executed by Bulog.
