The fashion photographer and former model has managed to come out the other side of the pandemic as one of the most productive fashion photographers in the game
ashion photographer Winston Gomez managed to “beat” the pandemic year and turn in his hottest career streak yet thanks to his outstanding portfolio of exciting Gen Z muses. He shared with The Jakarta Post the secret of his latest success.
The past couple of years have been interesting for fashion photographer Winston Gomez. At the time when the COVID-19 pandemic made itself ubiquitous, affecting the entire fashion industry, the Jakarta-based lensman and former model managed to come out the other side as one of the most productive fashion photographers in the game. He has his recent sui generis clientele to thank: the Gen Z ingenues who have been making waves in the music, film and entertainment industries.
Winston did not anticipate such a hot streak.
"Since 2020—and especially this year—it seems like all my muses and talents that I photograph are all young people!" remarked the 31-year-old photographer with delight to the Post in a Zoom interview on Oct. 6. He came up with his theory to explain why he suddenly became the most wanted photographer among the so-called young chaps. "I think the way I treat them is different compared to the other photographers," he said.
Fascination
Born in 1990, Winston has been fascinated with the idea of "conjuring an image that is beyond what is ordinary". As an adolescent, his fascination with all things photography was sparked by off-the-wall muses, such as the poster of Lindsay Lohan's 2004 teen comedy Mean Girls and the album covers of Irish boy band Westlife. To nurture his budding interest, he used to fool around with his father's camcorder to learn how to "capture the moments" during family trips.
