(Courtesy of Gowa/Ramzi Firhad) (Gowa/Courtesy of Gowa/Ramzi Firhad ) Self-described “antidisciplinary designer” and composer Lody Andrian offers compelling cinematic soundscapes through his musical project Gowa. Released digitally alongside fittingly somber illustrations by Ramzi Firhad, Gowa’s three singles, available on its Bandcamp, are filled with detailed synthesizer interplay that harkens back to 1970s-1980s sci-fi and horror soundtracks, with a good dose of tribal percussion and nuance. The compositions are patient but never “ambient”, always propelling forward with a discomforting sense of foreboding.
