Food brings people together, something that is especially true for people from Australia and Indonesia. Such closeness may come in a surprising dish.
he Australian Embassy in Jakarta organized Taste of Australia 2024 events in Surabaya and Jakarta on June 20-25 to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Indonesia.
“One thing we all have in common is our love for food,” remarked Adrian Lochrin, minister-counselor for political and strategic communications at the embassy, during an event in Jakarta on June 22.
“What better way to mix, meet and connect than over some food?”
Australia and Indonesia established formal diplomatic relations on Dec. 27, 1949.
Prior to this, Australia was one of the first countries to support Indonesian independence, demonstrating early advocacy through public statements, direct actions and diplomatic efforts.
“Seventy-five years is a long time,” Lochrin said.
“We’re very proud of the relationship and Australia’s role in supporting Indonesia’s independence at the time.”
