Michelin aims to reduce its energy consumption by 37 percent by 2030 and halve its CO2 emissions in comparison with 2010.
rench tire manufacturer Michelin is set to increase by up to 40 percent its use of environmentally friendly materials by 2030, with a target of producing fully sustainable tires by 2050, the company said recently.
The figure is higher than the current 30 percent of environmentally friendly materials in tire production.
Michelin East Asia and Oceania president Manuel Fafian said that the company will include net-zero emissions for direct operations by 2050 with a strong commitment to circularity by increasing recycled content.
In reducing its environmental impact, the company has also set a target that in 2030, energy consumption will be reduced by 37 percent and its CO2 emissions will be halved when compared with 2010.
The company also plans to reduce its water extraction from the ground by 33 percent of its consumption in 2019 and waste generated by its factory by up to 25 percent compared with 2019. While the use of organic solvents will also be reduced by 50 percent compared with 2019.
“We are acting decisively to reduce our environmental impact. We are implementing our circular economy approach in all areas and all stages of product design,” Fafian said during an Asia Pacific media event in November last year.
“And we are playing a leading role in reducing water and energy consumption. We are committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2050 for direct operation and contributing to achieving net zero all across our value chains.”
