elas Jurnalis Cilik (young journalists class) is an independent, volunteer community that teaches journalism, especially photojournalism, to children aged 8 to 15 living in the coastal district of Cilincing, North Jakarta.
After four months of learning, mentored by professionals, the children have finally shared their work in an exhibition that displayed their photos on the vast concrete embankment in the area. Running from Friday to Sunday with a formal opening on Saturday, the event drew local residents, including the participants’ families, who came to celebrate their children’s creative achievements.

Running from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, the exhibit was the culmination of a four-month volunteer program called Kelas Jurnalis Cilik (young journalists class), a photography and empowerment initiative for children who live in the coastal district. (JP/Iqro Rinaldi)During the first three months of Kelas Jurnalis Cilik, the young participants focused on theory, learning from photographers and journalists who volunteered their time to share professional knowledge and techniques. The final month was devoted to practice, finally culminating in the public exhibition to highlight their learning journey.
Founded in 2017 by Syamsudin Ilyas, a journalist and photography enthusiast, Kelas Jurnalis Cilik has organized annual photography exhibitions, each with a different theme. Its eighth edition is titled INFINITI: Imajinasi dan Fantasi Sejak Dini (Infinity: Imagination and fantasy from an early age).
The exhibition features a vibrant array of photographs capturing everyday moments in Cilincing, revealing stories about the local economy, education and cleanliness. A total of 50 children produced 107 photographs using two mediums: fabric and ImpraBoard.
