his spring, John Hardy is releasing its latest Spring collection of chain accessories titled the 2023 Classic Chain Rata collection.
Showcasing a special weaving craft that produces a wide yet slim chain, the Classic Chain Rata collection presents a line of sleek and supple ribbon-like chains that utilize circular motifs alongside a mix of premium materials to create a fluid V silhouette.
Offered in both male and female variations, the collection is a product of intensive and detailed labor, taking three days to weave a single rata-chain bracelet, and four days to weave just 35.6 centimeters of necklace.
The production process begins with hundreds of reclaimed metal links, which John Hardy artisans weave simultaneously into stacked horizontal rows. Working horizontally, as opposed to vertically, produces a whole, unbroken-form factor, with a structure that echoes that of a hand-knit textile.
Next, the artisans hammer and stretch the piece by hand on a traditional manual rolling mill. It is during this stage that the chain is worked into a flat, ribbon-like form with a surface area wider and slimmer than our other classic weaves, and exemplifying John Hardy’s commitment to quality and craftmanship in creating this new Spring collection.
