Hard Rock Bali’s charity 5K helps Sungai Watch protect waterways

T

he Rock n’ Run 5K Charity Fun Run, organized by Hard Rock Hotel Bali in November, has successfully raised funds through registration fees and an auction.

Drawing over 850 runners from various backgrounds, including members of the running community, hoteliers, corporations and local residents, last year’s charity run marked the event’s 20th iteration in another huge milestone for the hotel.

The Rock n’ Run 5K 2023 was held in partnership with Sungai Watch and raised funds to install trash barriers and to purchase waterproof suits for its “river warriors”, to help the environmental group realize its goal to keep the waters in and around the island province clean.

Founded in 2020 by siblings Gary, Kelly and Sam Bencheghib, Sungai Watch now has a team of over 100 dedicated river warriors. Its mission is in accordance with Hard Rock Hotel’s founding mottos of Save the Planet, Take Time to Be Kind, All is One and Love All, Serve All.

"We were extremely pleased to restart our annual Rock n' Run in November after a short pause during the pandemic, and we are incredibly grateful to all the participants, sponsors and volunteers who made this event a resounding success," said Shane Coates, general manager at Hard Rock Hotel Bali.

"Through this event, we have ignited a flame of awareness and inspired individuals to take action towards preserving our Bali Rivers and creating a cleaner, more sustainable world for future generations."

Coates also expressed his gratitude for the support and enthusiasm or all stakeholders during the river barrier installation ceremony held on March 5, 2024.

In addition to the river barrier, Hard Rock Hotel Bali also donated 65 waterproof suits to Sungai Watch.

These suits will help protect the group’s dedicated river warriors as they carry out their daily operations in collecting trash from waterways, ensuring their safety and comfort as they work tirelessly to protect Bali’s environment.
