/NDL Studios tackled the modern dynamics of project management with the seventh edition of the Knowledge Series, a collaborative monthly webinar with The Jakarta Post.
The Knowledge Series aims to offer practical knowledge and insightful learning opportunities for working professionals, particularly those in B/NDL Studios' B2B network, the Post's active subscribers and employees of both organizations.
Held on June 12, the event took the theme of “Solid Skills for Project Success”, inviting self-described people development enthusiast Vicario Reinaldo as a speaker and Post president and chief revenue officer Maggie Tiojakin as moderator.
Vicario is the CEO and principal consultant of Vicarious Learning Academy, a boutique leadership development firm that helps mid-level professionals harness their leadership skills. Previously, he worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company before becoming chief of staff to the board of directors at Gojek.
Project management can be an exciting opportunity for aspiring leaders, offering first-hand experience into every step of a project. However, its path to completion often comes with obstacles, self-doubt and burnouts. Leaders often fail to identify the solid skills needed to complete projects and build stakeholders’ trust.
To that end, understanding management theories can help leaders build confidence to solve any managerial problems along the way.
The webinar delved into redefining the conventional understanding of soft skills by emphasizing their critical role in project management, transforming “soft skills” into “solid skills” by introducing a working framework that will lead to enhanced project success, improved teamwork and greater stakeholder satisfaction.
These solid skills include strategic thinking, operational excellence, learning agility, influential communication and digital mindfulness.
Vicario, who also routinely shares practical tips on growing leadership skills to his combined 150,000 followers across social media and leads the Alumni Club of Young Leaders for Indonesia by McKinsey & Company, acknowledged that some people may be handed responsibilities that are beyond their skills.
“We may know the technicalities, but we need something beyond the technical skills to make it successful. Hence, we need solid skills,” he said.
