arihusada Generasi Mahardika (SGM), a leading name in child nutrition, celebrates 70 years of dedicated service to Indonesian children by announcing a series of strategic initiatives aimed at furthering its mission. Established in 1954 under the name NV Saridele, the company was founded to tackle post-independence hunger and malnutrition in Indonesia, with support from the Indonesian government and the United Nations. Over the decades, Sarihusada has become synonymous with quality and affordable nutrition, particularly through its flagship product line, SGM.
The company’s milestone anniversary underscores its ongoing commitment to addressing nutritional deficiencies in the country. Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Hayu, the fourth daughter of Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, highlighted the origins of Sarihusada, noting that in 1955, her father provided land for the NV Saridele factory in Yogyakarta. "Yogyakarta was chosen for its reliable soybean supply. My father saw the potential in the factory, and in addition to providing land for the factory itself, he also allocated land for soybean cultivation. The factory’s impact was immediate, providing stable income for local farmers and contributing positively to the regional economy," she said.
The company’s focus on innovation has been a cornerstone of its success. Arif Mujahidin, corporate communications director of Danone Indonesia, emphasized Sarihusada’s dedication to research and product development, supported by a state-of-the-art research center in Yogyakarta. "Our commitment to providing top-tier nutrition is evident in our continuous investment in research and innovation. One of our key products, SGM Eksplor, features IronC™—a unique combination of iron and vitamin C that enhances nutrient absorption. This is just one example of how we are addressing specific nutritional challenges like iron deficiency," Mujahidin stated.
As part of its 70th anniversary celebration, Sarihusada has launched several initiatives aimed at supporting the next generation of Indonesians. One significant program is the Elementary School Education Assistance Program, which will provide Rp 2 billion in educational assistance to 70 elementary school students across Indonesia. This initiative is designed to help foster a generation of well-nourished, educated and competitive individuals.
In addition to its educational efforts, Sarihusada is also taking steps to combat anemia in children. The company has introduced an innovative anemia screener to help parents and healthcare providers assess the risk of anemia in children, ensuring that early intervention can take place if necessary.
The importance of Sarihusada’s work is echoed by parents like Hildah Alfiani, who shared her reasons for choosing SGM as her child's growth milk. "As a mother, I want the best for my child. SGM has been a trusted brand for generations, and I believe in its quality. My child not only enjoys it, but I also trust that it provides the complete nutrition needed for optimal growth and development," Alfiani said.
Looking forward, Sarihusada has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its work in child nutrition. The company plans to expand its reach through further product innovations and community-based programs, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of addressing the nutritional needs of Indonesian children.
With a legacy of 70 years, Sarihusada is poised to continue its vital work, providing affordable, high-quality nutrition while also making a significant impact on public health and education across Indonesia.
