PNM empowers batik artisans with ecoprint techniques in Kampung Madani

ct. 2 holds deep significance as Indonesia celebrates one of its forms of cultural heritage. Recognized globally, batik remains an essential traditional Indonesian fabric that must be preserved and adapted to modern times.
As a company dedicated to financing and empowering ultra-micro enterprises, PNM (Permodalan Nasional Madani) has been training a cluster of batik artisans in Kampung Madani, located in Gandusari village, Magelang, to produce more varied batik products.
Through Kampung Madani, PNM’s Corporate Secretary, L. Dodot Patria Ary, emphasized the company's commitment to rolling out region-based empowerment programs that could be easily replicated and adapted to local conditions.
"In Magelang, we’ve established a batik village cluster, complete with a batik training center and facilities for color fixation. These amenities are available not only for PNM clients but also for non-clients," said Dodot.
The training, conducted in collaboration with experienced trainers, aims to diversify the artisans’ products by expanding from traditional batik techniques to modern methods such as ecoprint. This trend offers a fresh approach, enabling batik to be worn not only for special occasions but also in everyday life.
"We encourage our clients to develop the skills needed to create batik product combinations that align with contemporary lifestyle demands," he added.
Beyond ecoprint batik-making training, PNM plans to offer advanced courses in ecoprint dyeing techniques, aimed at further enhancing the business prospects of its clients.
